Michael and his trio Acoustica opened the 2006 Maleny Autumn Music Festival with a concert on March 26th then toured South East Queensland. The tour featured new original music and also saw the launch of his new ensemble Centauri with new, especially composed crossover music presented at a concert on the 30th.

Michael is the Patron of the Oriana Concert Choir resident in the Sunshine Coast of Queensland. The choir aims for professional performances of a diverse repertoire. Michael has had a professional interest in choral composition and welcomes the appointment as a meaningful way to promote high-quality performances of choral repertoire and new music.
Michael's music was featured at "Privately Composing" a concert event on February 26th 2006 at the Caloundra Regional Art Gallery exhibition of "Privately Collecting" of all Australian Works collected by Ken Hinds. With Louise King-cello, Louise Kennedy-soprano and Craig Hanicek on saxophone and the composer on guitar, the following new works were premiered: On the Beach at Night for soprano, cello and gongs, Inner Landscape for guitar, Songs of Death & Guitars and Sarabande for soprano, cello and guitar. Also premiered the new arrangement of 5 Pictures from the Life of the Bab for cello and guitar.
World Premiere of Toccata for Two Guitars by Duo Australis (in a version for guitar and marimba!) at the Darwin International Guitar Festival took place in 2005.

Michael Knopf’s Centauri
Michael Knopf’s Centauri in concert Sunday November 11th 7:00p.m. at BEMAC Centre Room Yungaba Conference Centre 120 Main Road Kangaroo Point (Under the Storey Bridge).
A collaboration between the Centauri Ensemble (Michael on Guitars of all sorts, Craig Hanicek –sax, Rohan Somasekaran- keyboards, Andrew Lesnewski – doublebass) and Persian traditional and classical musicians Cievash Arean (tar, oud, kamancheh, ney)and Faraz Shahbazi 9Zarb, daf, and vocals).
This concert was in benefit of the Helen Zeckendorf Memorial Fund (National Interfaith Festival Founder & Director recently passed away) for Medicins Sans Frontieres.

Coming Up
Michael has been commissioned by leading Australian choral conductor Graeme Morton to compose new music for the St Peter’s Lutheran College Chorale. The new music will be premiered later in 2009.
